In a major boost to one of Rhode Island’s premier attractions, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, together with Congressman Gabe Amo, have successfully secured more than $16 million in federal funding for the restoration and revitalization of Newport’s famed Cliff Walk. This scenic coastal trail, which draws over a million visitors each year, will undergo significant improvements aimed at countering the effects of coastal erosion, climate change, and recent structural collapses.

The funding package combines a federal earmark and a substantial grant, specifically targeting the engineering and design phases necessary for the rehabilitation of the Cliff Walk. These steps are crucial in preserving its structural integrity against ongoing environmental challenges. The initiative underscores a committed effort by federal and local entities to safeguard and enhance the visitor experience at one of Newport’s most beloved landmarks.
