Bennie Thompson Channels $13.8 Million to Transform Mississippi’s 2nd District
In a significant move for Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District, U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson has successfully secured a total of $13,823,903 in Community Project Funding, following the House’s approval of a critical appropriations funding package. This financial injection is earmarked for a variety of community projects across the district, promising to spur development and enrich local communities.
Among the notable allocations, Thompson announced a $1 million grant dedicated to the Forks to Freedom Park project in Natchez. This particular investment aims to initiate the first phase of the park’s development, focusing on enhancing green spaces while paying homage to the history and valor of the U.S. Colored Troops. The project is just one of several initiatives aimed at fostering community development, education, workforce innovation, and housing improvements across the district.
Thompson underscored the significance of these investments during a recent event where he presented checks to fourteen community project leaders, including notable recipients such as Alcorn State University, GOGIC Charities, Inc., and the City of Natchez. Through these efforts, Thompson stresses the crucial role of federal support in expanding local opportunities and demonstrates the active commitment of Congress to addressing the needs of communities throughout Mississippi’s 2nd District.
