Central Kentucky Regional Airport to Undergo Expansion with $3.5 Million Federal Boost
Central Kentucky Regional Airport is poised for a significant upgrade, thanks to a new influx of federal funding announced by Congressman Andy Barr. A total of $3.5 million has been allocated for the construction of a new terminal specifically designed for general aviation. This initiative is part of a broader partnership with Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), which plays a pivotal role in the airport’s operations through its flight training program.
The federal investment is a collaborative effort, drawing on resources from the house subcommittee on transportation, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and related industries. The funding aims to modernize the airport facilities and enhance its capacity to handle the growing demand and traffic associated with EKU’s expanding aviation training needs.
In addition to the federal funds, EKU is further supporting the project with a $1 million contribution. This financial commitment underscores the importance of the regional airport to the university’s aviation program and highlights the synergistic relationship between the two institutions. The new terminal is expected to bolster the airport’s operations and provide a more efficient, streamlined service to its users.
