Congressional Panel Subpoenas Top Advisor in COVID-19 Origins Probe

Date: May 8, 2024 Brad R. Wenstrup

The Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, under the chairmanship of Rep. Brad Wenstrup, has taken a significant step forward in its investigation into the origins of COVID-19. In a move signaling intensifying scrutiny, Dr. David Morens, a high-level advisor to Dr. Anthony Fauci, has been served a subpoena. The committee’s action requires Dr. Morens to provide testimony at a forthcoming public hearing slated for May 22, 2024.

Dr. Morens is at the heart of allegations suggesting he engaged in efforts to obstruct the Subcommittee’s inquiry, particularly concerning the examination of COVID-19’s emergence. Central to these allegations is the accusation that Morens sought to shield Dr. Fauci from potential scrutiny or questioning. Documents, including emails, have surfaced which suggest concerted efforts were made to postpone or interfere with Dr. Morens’ scheduled testimony, ultimately leading to the decision to issue a subpoena.

This development marks the second occasion that Dr. Morens has been subpoenaed, the prior one involving allegations related to violations of federal records keeping standards. Such actions underscore the escalating tensions and the profound implications of the Congressional panel’s investigation, drawing national attention to the ongoing debate about the pandemic’s origins and the transparency of public health officials.
