FEMA and Senate Leaders Collaborate in Wake of Sulphur Storm Damage

Date: May 2, 2024 James Lankford

In a concerted effort to address the devastation left by a recent storm in Sulphur, Oklahoma, key figures from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Senate have come together to survey the damage and coordinate relief efforts. The visit underscored the urgent need for collaborative measures to support the recovery of the affected community and local economy.

Governor Bill Anoatubby of the Chickasaw Nation and Senator James Lankford were present during the assessment, both highlighting the significant economic ramifications of the storm. Particularly hard-hit was the local business sector, along with the Chickasaw National Recreation Area – a crucial source of tourism revenue for the area.

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell emphasized the critical role of partnership with federal agencies, including the National Park Service, in enhancing the resilience of communities against the backdrop of increasingly severe weather events. This collaborative approach aims not only to address the immediate impacts of such disasters but also to fortify the affected areas against future adversities.
