In a celebration of young talent, Congressman Rick W. Allen of Georgia’s 12th District recently hosted an event at Augusta’s Westobou Gallery to honor the winners of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. This annual event, sponsored by Members of Congress, draws entries from high school students across the country, inviting them to create and submit artworks that reflect their unique perspectives on life in their home districts.
Emerging victorious this year was Saniyah Newton, with her evocative piece titled “Onset of a Storm.” Newton’s artwork stood out among the submissions and earned the prestigious spot of being displayed in the U.S. Capitol for an entire year. Her achievement highlights the remarkable talent and potential among the youth in Georgia’s 12th District.
Other notable finalists included Baron Trupp, Zoe Broussard, and Liliana Meliezer, whose artworks were selected for display in Congressman Allen’s district offices. These pieces, along with Newton’s winning entry, encapsulate the diverse and dynamic expressions of young artists within the district.

Congressman Allen, in his remarks, commended all participants for their hard work and creativity.
