Guam Seniors Receive Lifeline with Home Improvement Program

Date: May 10, 2024 James C. Moylan

Nearly 200 residents of Guam have shown keen interest in a federal assistance program designed to offer financial help for home improvements to the senior and financially challenged demographic. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Section 504 program, which has been actively promoted through the efforts of Del. James Moylan and his office, aims to provide a crucial support system for those in need within the community.

During informational sessions held at various local mayors’ offices, community members were introduced to the benefits of the program, which includes grants of up to $10,000 and low-interest loans reaching $40,000. These financial aids are specifically tailored to address and mitigate health and safety hazards in homes, ensuring a safer living environment for the recipients.

Del. James Moylan has not only facilitated these educational sessions but has also been a vocal advocate for securing increased funding for the program in Congress, highlighting the essential nature of such support services in maintaining and enhancing the well-being of Guam’s elderly population. Plans are in place to extend these informational sessions to other municipal offices across Guam, accommodating the growing interest and need among the community members for such assistance.
