Date: April 8, 2024 Seth Magaziner

The Johnston Police Department, a key sentinel for a community of around 30,000 people and more than 850 local businesses, has recently been the beneficiary of a substantial $485,000 in federal grants. This financial infusion is earmarked for critical updates and enhancements to the department’s emergency response infrastructure. At the heart of these improvements are advanced portable radios and patrol rifles, alongside speed measuring signs and two new vehicles dedicated to the Special Services unit. This suite of upgrades is expected to significantly bolster the department’s operational capabilities.

U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner heralded this funding at a press conference, providing a detailed overview of how these resources will be deployed. His announcement highlighted a concerted effort to further the safety and security of Johnston’s residents and business community. The acquisition of these high-tech tools and vehicles is seen as a pivotal step toward modernizing the local law enforcement agency and enhancing its efficacy in managing emergencies and routine patrols alike.

Mayor Joseph Polisena Jr. has thrown his full support behind this initiative, particularly noting the urgency of keeping the community safe. He views these federal funds as not just a boon for the police department but as a critical investment in the well-being and security of Johnston’s entire population. This move underscores a broader commitment to public safety that aligns with the expectations and needs of the community, ensuring that Johnston remains a secure and vibrant place to live and work.
