Senators Klobuchar and Smith Champion Child Care in Luverne with $2.6 Million Grant
In a significant boost to child care services in Rock County, Minnesota, Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith have successfully secured a $2.6 million federal grant for the establishment of a new daycare center. The beneficiaries of this substantial financial support, the Kids Rock! Center, hosted Senator Klobuchar on a recent visit, highlighting the progress and plans for the facility. The center, which is taking shape in a structure that previously belonged to Total Card, is an initiative aimed at addressing the critical need for child care in the area.
During her tour, Klobuchar was accompanied by key city figures, including Luverne’s Economic Development Director and Mayor. They journeyed through the facility, with the daycare’s director unveiling the envisioned layout, security protocols, and equipment intended to create a safe and nurturing environment for children. Discussions also covered the center’s future operations and the wide range of services it plans to offer to the local community.
Further bolstering the project, an additional grant of $250,000 was secured, earmarked for the procurement of necessary furnishings and supplies. This financial infusion underscores the commitment to not only get the center up and running but also to ensure it is well-equipped to provide quality care. The aim for the Kids Rock! Center is ambitious: to obtain licensure to serve up to 186 children and to create employment opportunities for approximately 35 staff members. With construction anticipated to conclude by early 2025, the project stands as a testament to the tangible benefits of federal support for local community initiatives, particularly in the vital sector of child care.
