Ashlyn Akemon Wins 2024 TX13 Congressional Art Competition with “The Vintage Collection
The realm of artistic talent within the Texas 13th Congressional District has found its shining star in Ashlyn Akemon, a high school senior from Kelton Independent School District. Her artwork, “The Vintage Collection,” captivated the hearts and minds of those in attendance and secured her the top position in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition.
This year’s competition, championed by Congressman Ronny Jackson, sought to highlight the landscapes and landmarks that characterize Texas’s 13th District. Akemon’s piece, featuring an array of vintage cars set against the storied Conoco Station on Route 66 in Shamrock, Texas, not only met this criteria but also stood out for its detailed portrayal and emotional resonance.
Congressman Jackson was effusive in his praise for Akemon, noting her exceptional talent and vision. “Ashlyn’s piece is a testament to the beauty and historical richness of our district,” he said. “We are thrilled to have her represent TX13 with her artwork at the United States Capitol, where it will be displayed amongst other winning entries from across the country.”
As Akemon’s “The Vintage Collection” heads to Washington, D.C., it serves as a reminder of the talent nurtured within Texas’s 13th Congressional District and the power of art to connect communities through shared heritage and landmarks.
