Federal and Local Efforts Amplify Housing and Recovery Support in Delaware

Date: April 8, 2024 Lisa Blunt Rochester

In an impressive demonstration of cooperation between federal and state levels, significant funding has been secured to bolster both addiction recovery and affordable housing initiatives in Delaware. Highlighting this push for community support, Limen Recovery and Wellness in Wilmington is set to receive a substantial influx of federal dollars. Nearly $500,000 has been allocated to the organization, originating from an appropriations bill passed in late 2022. This funding will be directly used to expand the services and bed capacity of Limen Recovery’s Mens House on West 10th Street, aiming to enhance the facility’s ability to assist those in recovery from addiction.

The effort to secure these funds was championed by Delaware Senators Carper and Coons, along with Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester. Their collective advocacy underscores the essential need for collaboration between governmental tiers and the communities they serve. By directly addressing the urgent requirement for addiction treatment resources in Delaware, their successful campaign for funding stands as a testament to their commitment to public health and welfare.

Meanwhile, in a parallel commitment to community welfare, U.S. Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester has taken a hands-on approach to combat the housing crisis in Delaware. Partnering with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLBank) and its member financial institutions, Rep. Blunt Rochester has facilitated the provision of two grants totaling $1.5 million. These grants, aimed at affordable housing initiatives in Harrington, Delaware, will be channeled towards a rental apartment rehabilitation project and efforts to alleviate youth homelessness. This initiative was showcased during a ceremony at the Harrington Fire Company, where Rep. Blunt Rochester toured the renovations of the Diamond Court Apartments, reinforcing the critical need for safe and affordable housing within the community.

These initiatives, strengthened by federal backing and local execution, reflect a broader commitment to addressing fundamental issues of addiction recovery and housing affordability in Delaware. With the active participation of federal representatives and the support of financial institutions, Delaware continues to make significant strides towards creating a safer, healthier, and more supportive environment for its residents.
