Man Arrested for Arson Attack at Senator Bernie Sanders’ Vermont Office
In a startling incident that has caught national attention, a 35-year-old man was arrested for carrying out an arson attack at the Vermont office of Senator Bernie Sanders. Shant Soghomonian, who also goes by the name Michael, is accused of setting fire to the entrance of Sanders’ Burlington office, an act which was caught on security cameras.
The incident, which resulted in no physical harm to office staff thanks to a timely response by the building’s sprinkler system, has raised concerns about the safety of public servants. Video footage reveals Soghomonian, a former resident of California, spraying a liquid accelerant on the door before lighting the flames with a hand lighter. The fire caused damage to the office entryway before being extinguished.
U.S. Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest, speaking on the efforts leading to Soghomonian’s arrest, highlighted the cooperation between multiple law enforcement agencies in the investigation. Soghomonian, who is currently detained without bail, faces serious charges. If convicted of arson, he could be looking at up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. The motive behind the attack remains undisclosed, leaving many questioning what led to such a drastic action against Senator Sanders’ office.
